Oh yeah ! Those boys are from a book I have read many times when I was a kid.

Well, the book is called "Bontekoe's ship-boys" and it tells the story of 3 boys (the guys in your pic) who - in the 17th century- sail on captain Bontekoe's ship to what nowadays is called Indonesia. The book starts with how 2 of the boys meet the 3rd guy, who is the nephew of the captain, and who is going to sail to Indonesia.
They become friends and one of the other boys decides HE wants to go sailing as well. When the day has come for the ship to sail, the 3rd friend decides to come to the ship to see his friend leave. But because he falls asleep and only wakes up when the ship is already at sea, he has no choice but to come along.
When the ship is near the island of Sumatra, disaster strikes when sleep-boy makes the mistake of setting fire to the ship, which sinks. Some of thew people manage to safe themselves in small boats and reach the island. On the island the 3 friends plus one new friend get captured by islanders. Helped by a native young girl they escape, but find that their shipmates have fled.
The next part tells how the 3-friend-plus-one make their way accross the exotic island, helped by the young girl who goes after them because she can't stay in her village after helping them escape. Once on the coast again, they build a raft and set sail for the nearest place they hope to find a dutch ship, the island Java. The girl stays on her own island, as she has met a local boy. On Java they meet their old friends again, and find a ship to take them back to Holland.
The final part of the book tells how the sailors travell through winter'y Holland from the city of Vlissingen to Hoorn.
The end.
The story is roughly (very roughly) based on some of the diaries of the real captain Bontekoe. Last year a movie was made of this book, but I have not seen it. Everybody I heard about it says it's not very good, and I don't want to spoil the good memories I have about the book so...
